Got yelled at by a park ranger over my camp stove at Yosemite last month

I was just trying to boil water for coffee before dawn in a fire ring that was clearly empty and cold, but the ranger said my propane stove could still spark a wildfire with the dry conditions we've had. She literally took down my permit number and warned me about a $250 fine if I got caught again. Has anyone else run into crazy strict enforcement like this, or was I just unlucky with that ranger?

Last summer a ranger gave me a warning for hanging my hammock on a tree that was "too small.
