Vent: Threw $700 at climate-controlled storage with humidity monitors and still found rust on my chrome bumpers.

I stored my '67 Mustang in a state-of-the-art facility in Phoenix for 9 months, paying $700 a pop, thinking the humidity sensors they bragged about would protect it. Pulled it out last week and found surface rust speckling the front bumper and door handles, even though the monitors never blinked. What's the actual secret to keeping chrome safe in long-term storage that these facilities won't tell you?

honestly i used to think those fancy humidity monitors were foolproof too but this totally proved me wrong.

Those little sensors only measure the air right around them, so they can be totally off if you don't place them correctly. We had one in our basement reading 45%, but the far corner was actually dripping with moisture behind a shelf. Ended up getting a cheap standalone hygrometer from the hardware store just to cross-check the fancy one, and it was a world of difference. Now I always tell people to test theirs by putting it in a few different spots before they trust any single reading. Also, check the batteries on those things regularly, low power makes them lie something awful.
