Vent: Threw $400 at a heated storage unit for 6 months and got mold anyway
I put my '72 Mustang into one of those fancy climate controlled storage places over by the industrial park near I-85 thinking it'd be safe. After 6 months and $400 a month I went to pull it out and found green fuzz growing under the car cover and on the seats. The unit claimed to manage humidity but I never saw a gauge or any proof. Anyone else have luck with a specific storage setup or am I better off just building a pole barn?

Realize that heated storage doesn't mean dehumidified, those are two separate things. A lot of those places just keep the temperature steady but the air can still be damp, especially here in the South. I've seen folks put a cheap wireless hygrometer in their unit to check humidity levels over a week, and most are surprised at how high it reads. Before you drop money on a pole barn, try renting a unit with a dehumidifier running and ask to see their maintenance logs, or just bring your own moisture absorber buckets under the car. Honestly though, if you can swing a pole barn, you'll never worry about this again and the car will thank you for the fresh air.
