Tried storing my '72 Mustang in a regular storage unit with no climate control

After 3 months in a Houston summer, the leather seats got this weird sticky film and a tiny rust spot showed up near the window seal. I guess the humidity just cooked everything in there, even with a car cover on. Has anyone else dealt with damage from hot storage, or am I the only one who learned this the hard way?

My '68 Firebird got the same sticky film after just one month in a Dallas garage last July.
