The climate guy told me my storage unit swings 40 degrees, and I had no idea
I rented a unit outside of Columbus for my '68 Galaxie and never thought twice about temp swings until a guy at the counter mentioned the place hits about 40 degrees between summer and winter. I stuck a cheap thermometer in there the next visit and he was right, it read 51 in February and 91 in July. Nobody at the front desk had ever brought it up before that, which bugs me a little. I'm trying to figure out if I should move it or just deal with the swing, so what are you guys doing for cars in non-climate units? Any cheap tricks to keep things steadier in there?
Man, this reminds me of when I stored my grandad's old riding mower in a buddy's barn one winter and forgot about it. Come spring the seat was cracked all to hell and the gas tank had condensation rusting it from the inside. That temp swing thing is no joke, it's the moisture that gets you more than the heat or cold. A cheap fix I've seen guys do is tossing a few big bags of rice or those damp rid buckets in the corner to soak up the wet air. Also park it on a sheet of plastic so the floor sweat doesn't creep up into the frame. Might not fix the swing but it'll keep the rust off while you decide.
