That time a mechanic in Denver told me my battery tender was ruining my car's paint

He said leaving it plugged in year-round was causing acid fumes to settle on the hood, so now I only hook it up for 24 hours every two weeks during winter storage.

Sounds like he was just trying to sell you a new battery lol.

Right, @troy_ross, you're probably not wrong. Mechanics love to go straight for the battery even when it's something else. I had a guy tell me my alternator was fine once, swapped the battery, and then my car died two days later on the highway. It's like they just throw parts at it until something sticks, and they always start with the cheapest, easiest thing. Makes you wonder how many perfectly good batteries get replaced for no reason.

Had the exact same thing happen to me with a dying alternator.
