Stopped by a barn find auction in Ohio and noticed their storage setup
I drove out to a small auction near Dayton last Saturday to look at a 1972 Datsun 240Z someone had stored for 25 years. What caught my eye was how they kept the car on old carpet squares instead of jack stands or a concrete floor. The owner said it stopped moisture from wicking up through the tires and underneath. Has anyone else tried that method for long term storage, or is it a bad idea long term?

Figured that's just old school thinking from back before vapor barrier flooring was common. Did he mention if he put anything under the carpet to keep mice from nesting in there?

Yeah totally agree lol. "Old school thinking" is exactly what it is. My grandad used to swear by putting down steel wool or wire mesh before carpet to keep rodents out. I did that at my old place a few years back and honestly it worked like a charm. Never saw a single mouse after that and it was super cheap too.
