Just figured out I was storing my dad's 67 Mustang on a dirt floor for 3 winters, the frame rails told me
So my dad passed his 67 Mustang to me back in 2019 and I kept it in his old pole barn in Joplin because that's just where it always lived. Every fall I'd throw a cheap blue tarp over it, park it on the dirt, and call it good. Then 6 weeks ago I slid under it to check a brake line and saw rust bubbling up on the frame rails near the rear torque box, stuff that was not there two summers ago. I started poking around online and learned the dirt floor was basically a sponge, it holds ground moisture right up under the car and that tarp was trapping it instead of keeping it out. The real kicker is my neighbor Dale, who has a 55 Bel Air, walked over and said flat out, you are storing it on a sponge, get it on concrete or at least gravel and get air moving under it. I ended up renting a 10x20 unit at a place off Range Line for $135 a month with a concrete pad and I put down 2 inch foam boards under the tires. Frame rust does not stop on its own once it starts, it just keeps eating. What are you guys doing for airflow under a car in a barn, because I still want to keep it at the farm if I can make it work?
