Found a barn full of dusty cars outside of Lubbock and the owner let me peek inside
I was driving back roads outside Lubbock on Saturday and passed a leaning barn with a tarp flapping off the side. Pulled in to ask about a water pump and the older guy said he had 4 cars stored inside, all on blocks since the 90s. He waved me in and showed me a 1965 Mustang under a bedsheet, a truck I won't even try to name, and two others stacked with old coffee cans on the hoods. What got me was the floor: he had laid down thick rubber mats under every tire and you could still see the concrete was dry as a bone. I told him I had been fighting moisture in my own garage for a year and he just laughed and pointed at the mats. Anyone here using stall mats or something similar under their cars, and did it actually keep the damp off?
Man that damp floor fight is real and it wears you down after a while, so I feel for you. My last place had a slab that sweated all winter and I tried everything, fans, a dehumidifier running nonstop, even a coat of sealer that only half worked. Sounds like that old guy figured out something simple that the rest of us keep overthinking. Dry concrete under the tires is a good sign he knows what he's doing out there.
