DAE's uncle tell them to leave the windows down a crack over winter and now I'm second guessing my whole garage setup?

So my uncle Ray came by to see the 1966 Mustang I keep under a cover in my garage outside Fort Wayne. He took one look at my sealed up setup, 68 degrees, dehumidifier running, and asked why I never crack the windows. I said huh? He said he's stored his Chevelle every winter since 1987 with the windows down an inch and never had a mold problem, while mine got that musty smell in the trunk last spring. Now I'm wondering if I've been doing it backwards this whole time. Anyone else hear this from an old timer, or is Ray just lucky?
