Wire brush vs poly brush, I switched after a ceramic log job
Had a customer with a fancy gas log set that kept leaving gray streaks on the glass, spent 4 cleanings fighting it with my usual steel wire brush before I caved and tried the poly one, night and day difference. Anyone else run into stainless flue liners that just laugh at wire brushes, or am I the last guy to make this swap?
Yeah the gray streaks thing is exactly what I dealt with on a stainless liner last fall. I mean I thought my wire brush was just breaking in or something but turns out it was actually scraping little bits of metal off the liner, that's what was showing up on the glass. Swapped to the poly one mid-job and the difference was pretty obvious right away, glass stayed clear through the next two visits. I'm not saying wire brushes are useless everywhere but for the modern gas setups they're just too aggressive. Maybe it's just me but I feel like the industry is slowly moving that way anyway.
