Unpopular opinion: That new flexible rod system is more trouble than it's worth
Tried it on a standard clay flue in a 1950s house and it kept kinking on a slight offset. My boss said 'just muscle through it,' but I spent an extra forty minutes fighting the thing. Anyone have a better method for those old offset liners?

My old boss swore by a pre-bent fiberglass leader rod.

The real question is if the pre-bent shape holds up after you snag it on a log for the tenth time.

But what about the line itself? A bent leader might survive, but that weird angle puts a ton of stress on your tippet knot. You're basically creating a weak spot right at the connection. I've had more lines snap at the knot after a bent hook than I've had hooks actually straighten out. The metal might bend back, but your line is done for.
