Tried a cheap leaf blower attachment for ash cleanup, big mistake
Last Tuesday I figured I'd save some time on a job over in Oak Park by using a $40 leaf blower attachment to push ash out of a fireplace before sweeping. Big mistake. That fine ash went everywhere, up my nose, in the customer's white rug, all over their couch. Took me an extra hour to clean up my own mess. Learned my lesson the hard way, wet ash and a shop vac is the only way I'm doing it now. Anyone else ever try something 'smart' that backfired like this?

Wet ash isn't actually the fix, dry ash is what you want since wet ash turns into paste that stains brick and mortar. The trick is a shop vac with a fine dust filter and going slow so you don't kick anything up. A cheap blower just turns a small pile into a whole room problem.
