Took 6 hours to fix a flue that should have taken 2
Replaced a liner in an old house near Dayton last week, and the offset at the top was off by half an inch, so smoke kept spilling into the second floor. Nobody's blueprint had the actual bend marked, so I had to measure with a plumb bob three times and redo the connection. Anyone else waste half a day on something that looks simple on paper?

That plumb bob thing sounds miserable. I read somewhere that old houses around Dayton were built with whatever pipe was on sale that week, so the offsets are always janky. Half an inch is nothing on paper but it's the difference between a clean draft and choking out the bedroom. At least you caught it, I heard of a guy who just sealed it up and the smoke damage was way worse later.
