That old timer who told me to skip the wire brush on flue tiles

Met a retired sweep at a trade show back in March who swore I was wasting time with wire brushes on glazed flue tiles. Said I'd scratch the surface and cause more buildup. I ignored him for months until I noticed one of my regular jobs was getting rougher every clean. Tried a poly brush on that same chimney last week and it came out way smoother with less soot stuck. Anyone else made the switch from wire to poly and notice a difference?

Man I was totally in the same boat, thought the wire brush was the only way to go. But yeah after trying poly on a few tough jobs I'm completely converted, stuff works way better on glazed tiles.

My buddy Mark tried using wire brushes on his bathroom remodel last spring. He spent like 3 whole weekends scrubbing these ugly glazed tiles and barely made a dent. His arms were killing him and the grout still looked terrible. I told him to try the poly stuff and he laughed at me at first. Then he finally gave in and texted me a picture of the result like 4 hours later. He said it was the easiest job he'd ever done and that he'd wasted so much time being stubborn.
