Saw a guy in Yakima run a brush through a clay flue and crack the whole thing
I was doing a sweep on a duplex over on 6th Ave in Yakima last week when the owner asked me to look at the neighbor's setup while I was up there. The neighbor had a guy out two months back who ran a metal brush straight through a 60 year old clay tile flue, no camera, no test run, nothing. I put my light down that thing and you could see three cracked tiles around the 12 foot mark, pieces just sitting on the smoke shelf. If that homeowner had lit a fire that night, they would have had heat hitting the framing in that old chase. The part that bugs me is the guy charged 89 bucks and left a card on the counter like it was a normal job. I let the owner know to get a camera in there and quoted him a reline, but I keep thinking about how many of these are out there. Anyone run into cracked tile from a stiff brush this season? Curious what you all are charging for a reline in that part of the state.
