Rotor brush on a clay flue, I'm not sold after 14 houses

I ran the rotary whip on a full day of clay tile liners around Bakersfield and honestly, the results were uneven. On two older houses with heavy creosote glaze, it just polished the surface instead of cutting through, and I had to hand scrape after anyway. My steel brush with a good spin does the same job in half the time, plus I can feel the condition of the tiles better. Am I missing something, or are we all just chasing the shiny new tool because the manufacturer demo looked good?

Heard a few guys at the supply house talking about this exact thing last week. One of them said the rotary whip only works if you already got the flue mostly clean, it just finishes the job, not starts it. That matches what you ran into on those glazed houses. I'd say stick with the steel brush if it's working for you. The fancy tool is just another thing to lug up a ladder and clean after.
