Old timer said brush up top first, I did the opposite, big mistake
Two weeks ago a retired sweep at the feed store told me to always brush the crown before the flue on creosote jobs. I figured he was just stuck in his ways. Powered through the flue first and knocked a chunk loose that wedged halfway down. Took me an extra hour with the rotary to fish it out. Got any tricks that sound backwards but actually work?

Learned that one the hard way myself, now I always hit the crown first.
