I used a shop vac with a HEPA filter for a standard cleanout in a 1920s house and the amount of fine dust it pulled from the air after I was 'done' was frankly alarming.

After sweeping what I thought was a clean flue in Portland last month, I ran the vac for ten more minutes and it filled a fresh filter with ultra-fine particulates I would have otherwise left swirling in the home, so now I'm questioning if our standard 'clean' is actually clean enough.

Man, that's wild. I started doing a second pass with a HEPA vac too, and it's shocking how much stuff it still gets. Really makes you rethink what "clean" means.

Wow, that's a scary thought (and totally lines up with what @ray_king said). It makes me wonder if that leftover dust is why my allergies sometimes act up in a room I just cleaned. Honestly, we might all need to add a "HEPA air scrubber" step after the main cleanup in these old places, just to catch what we stir up. The idea of "clean" is definitely getting a serious rethink.
