I thought the 'chimney sheep' wool damper was a total joke until last winter

A customer in Burlington insisted on having one installed instead of a metal damper, and I honestly thought it was just some weird eco fad. We put it in, and I figured the first good rain would turn it into a soggy mess. Checked it six months later during a spring clean, and the thing was bone dry, no mold, and their heat logs showed they'd used way less wood. Has anyone else actually had a good run with these wool plugs, or did I just get lucky?

My buddy in Maine has had his for three winters now (the one from Woolly Mammoth, I think). Still dry, and he swears his draft is gone. I was just as shocked as you.

Actually, Woolly Mammoth is the company that makes those window kits. The draft stopper itself is just their brand. My sister got one last year and it's held up fine, but she did say the adhesive strips needed a re-stick after a really cold snap. Still, three winters in Maine is a pretty good test.

That adhesive strip thing is a real point. My neighbor in Vermont had the same issue after a brutal cold week. The plastic film itself was perfect, but the tape just gave up. He bought a separate roll of double-sided foam tape from the hardware store, the heavy duty kind, and redid all the edges. Said it worked even better than the original and held for the rest of the season. Sometimes the kit is good but the sticky stuff just isn't made for the worst weather.
