A sideways light beam showed me a liner crack I almost missed

Shining my flashlight sideways reveals cracks that looking straight up hides.

Actually seems like overthinking a simple problem. Why mess around with weird angles when a good bright light from above shows everything clearly? Sideways beams just create long shadows that make small flaws look way worse than they are. Doesn't that just cause panic over nothing? You end up fixing stuff that wasn't even broken. Straight down light gives you the real picture without the drama.

But saying straight down light shows the real picture misses how light works in real life. @blairwhite is right that flaws are there, but side light copies the way sunlight hits walls during the day. If you only check with overhead light, you won't see how the room looks in normal morning or evening light. So it's not about causing panic, it's about catching issues that might bother you later when you're just living in the space. You want the finish to hold up under all kinds of light, not just one perfect beam from above.

Honestly @lily394 it's not really about causing panic. Tbh if a sideways light shows a bunch of flaws, those flaws are actually there in the room. Overhead light just hides them, so you're not seeing the real picture either. Ngl most people want a really smooth finish, and side light is the best way to check your work. Seems like it comes down to whether you want things to look okay or actually be perfect.
