A homeowner in Portland told me my inspection photos were useless
They said the shots were too close and showed no scale, so now I always include a tape measure or my glove for reference. Anyone else get feedback that made them change a basic habit?

It's just a photo for a report, not a museum piece. People get weirdly hung up on tiny details sometimes. If the client can see the crack or the water stain, the job is done. Adding a prop seems like extra work for a problem that hardly ever comes up. Most folks just want to know what's wrong with the house.

Adding a prop just creates clutter in the frame. A good inspector knows how to describe the scale in their report notes instead. Clients hire you for your expert eye, not to look at your glove. Overcomplicating the photo process wastes time on site for no real gain.

Actually, that's a solid tip about the glove or tape measure. I used to think just getting the detail was enough.
