Why does every new building downtown have those stupid tiny balconies?
I was walking through River North last weekend and every new high-rise has these 3-foot deep balconies you can barely stand on. Are developers just checking a box or do people actually use them for anything?

Is it just me or does it feel like the whole city is moving toward this weird pretend-outdoor lifestyle now? They give you a balcony too small for a chair and a table but just big enough to say you have one, like putting a stick shift in a self-driving car for 'the feel'. It's the same pattern as those fake grass patios in new apartment buildings or the rooftop pools that are only open three months a year.

Does that mean my "balcony" is actually just a fancy windowsill I pay an extra $200 a month for? lol I've got one that's like 3 feet deep and I can't even fit a single chair out there without my knees hitting the railing. I just stand in the doorway and pretend I'm breathing fresh air while checking if my neighbor is grilling something I can smell.
