Update: the parking spot saver war on my block, I switched sides
My neighbor Mike has been holding the same street spot with a lawn chair since Tuesday. I used to think that was pure Chicago nonsense. Last week I shoveled out a spot after the snow, and some guy in a Prius slid right in while I was getting my boots on. Mike watched it happen, gave me a nod, and dragged his chair over to mark it for me. I never understood the chair thing. Now I get it. It isn't about being entitled, it's about standing in the snow for 40 minutes and watching someone else take the fruit of your labor. I bought my own chair today, an old plastic one from the alley. Is this how it starts? Has anyone else converted after getting burned once?
