The guy at the UPS store on Clark made me rethink how I box up my apartment
I was shipping a lamp to my sister last week and the guy behind the counter asked if I lived in a greystone. I said yeah, how'd you know, and he told me he can always tell by how people pack, because plaster walls mean everything in the old units shifts a little and you end up taping boxes twice. He said he's been on the same block in Lakeview for 14 years and has watched movers ruin more furniture than any leak ever did. It made me realize I've been blaming my landlord for my crooked shelves when the building has just been settling since 1912. How do you all deal with furniture that never sits flat in these old places?
