Paid $300 for a plumber to snake my kitchen drain last week

Turns out it was just a clogged garbage disposal that I could've fixed myself with a $5 Allen wrench. Did anyone else get burned by a simple fix that you overpaid for?

Pay the guy for his truck and his license and his insurance and the fact he showed up when he said he would. You didn't know it was just the disposal, he did. That's literally why you pay him.

Read somewhere that something like 80% of home maintenance calls are for stuff people could do in under 15 minutes with basic tools. My brother paid a locksmith $200 to get into his car once, and it turned out the door was just frozen shut. Couple of warm taps with a credit card did the trick. That plumber saw you coming from a mile away, probably knew it was the disposal before he even got the snake out. You ever look up a YouTube tutorial for that exact problem now before calling anyone?
