My neighbor swore the CTA bus tracker app was useless, now I check it every morning

Old guy down the hall named Frank told me last winter to stop using the Ventra website and just look out the window instead. Said those bus arrival times are always off by at least 10 minutes. Well I finally downloaded the Transit app after missing the 22 three times in a row last month near Clark and Diversey. Now I know exactly when to leave my apartment and I've only waited more than 5 minutes once. Has anyone else found a specific app that actually works better than the official one?

Yeah it's wild how people will swear something's broken forever and then one day it just works. Same thing happened to me with the Red Line schedule, used to be a mess but now it's actually reliable.

Something nobody talks about is how these systems are often held together by a single person who actually cares. I'd bet there is one employee at the transit authority who spent six months quietly fixing the backend while everyone else was arguing about budget cuts. Same thing happened with the city bus app back in 2019. Everyone blamed the software but it turned out the data feed was being sent wrong and one guy just rewrote it on his lunch breaks. The second he left for another job it would have broken again and nobody would have known why.
