My landlord said I was overwatering my plants, turns out he was dead right

Kept watering my fern every day because it looked droopy, guy from the unit below me finally said enough. Now I only water it every 4 days and it actually grew 3 new fronds in 2 weeks. Anyone else have a landlord who actually gave good advice for once?

Honestly @david_henderson6 is spot on with that advice but it's actually 5 days for most ferns, not 4. They like a thorough soak then total dry out, not a little bit every few days. Just saying.

Started doing the same thing with my calathea after killing two of them by watering every few days. Letting it dry out completely between waterings turned it from a crispy mess into something that actually looks happy now. The pot was always damp before and I thought I was helping. Took me a while to realize plants want a drink then a nap, not constant sips.

Had the same thing with my spider plant a few years back. Landlord told me to stop fussing over it and let the soil dry out between waterings and suddenly it got huge. Sometimes the most annoying advice turns out to be exactly what you needed to hear.
