Just realized my building is using the wrong fire extinguishers

I was talking to a fire safety guy named Tom last week at the hardware store on Clark. He told me the extinguishers in my building are Class B rated but we got gas stoves and dryers that need Class C. Said a lot of old buildings in Chicago have the same issue. Anyone know if the landlord legally has to fix this or am I overthinking it?

Hearing that from Tom would have me worried too. Gas appliances and the wrong extinguisher is a real fire hazard that could go bad fast. In Chicago, the landlord is supposed to keep up with fire safety codes, so they should swap those out for you. Might be worth sending a quick note to the building manager about it before something happens.
