I finally hit 10 years in my Bridgeport apartment and people think I'm crazy

Everyone keeps telling me I should move to a new building with amenities and in-unit laundry. But I've been in this same two-flat on Lituanica Avenue for a decade now. My rent only went up $150 total over those 10 years which is basically unheard of around here. The landlady still calls me by my first name and fixed my leaking pipe within 2 hours last winter. Has anyone else found that staying put in an older building actually saved them more money than moving around?

10 years in the same place and only $150 more total? That's pretty good but let's not act like you're some kind of martyr for not moving. Plenty of people stay put for a lot less time and don't make a big deal about it. The landlady fixing a pipe in 2 hours is nice but that's the bare minimum for a rental, you know? And having no in-unit laundry for a decade is rough, that adds up in time and quarters. I'm not saying you should move but acting like you've cracked some secret code is a bit much. It's just an apartment, not a life achievement.

@margaret_singh1 nailed it but I also think we've all bought into this trap where newer always equals better when half the time it just means more rent and thinner walls.

Start by pointing out how much time she saved not dealing with moving trucks and application fees.
