Got stuck on the Red Line at 11pm and learned the hard way to check the alerts before boarding
Last Thursday I hopped on the Red Line at Wilson around 11pm heading home to 95th, and we sat between stations for 40 minutes with no cell service and no announcement. Turns out there was a medical emergency two stops up, but nobody on the train knew anything, so a guy near me started yelling at the conductor over the intercom. I pulled up the CTA alerts page on my phone the second we got signal and saw the whole thing had been posted 20 minutes before I even walked into the station. Now I check that page before I swipe in, every single time, even if it adds 10 seconds to my night. Has anyone found a better app than the official CTA one for real time alerts, because theirs feels slow sometimes?
Used to roll my eyes at people checking the alerts page before every trip, thought it was overkill for a short ride. Then I sat on a dead train for half an hour with zero info and realized those folks were right all along. It takes ten seconds and saves you from being the guy yelling at the intercom.
