Finally gave up on the express bus after 3 years of trying to make it work

I used to swear by the J14 express bus to get from my place in Uptown to the Loop. Every morning I'd convince myself it was faster than the Red Line, even when it took 45 minutes just to get to Clark and Lake. Last Tuesday I had a meeting at 8 AM and the bus never showed up on the tracker - just vanished. I walked to the Sheridan Red Line stop out of spite and made it downtown in 22 minutes door to door. Then I did the math over the next week and realized the express bus averages 35 minutes while the train is always around 25. The joke's on me because I wasted 10 extra minutes per trip for 3 years. Has anyone else stubbornly stuck with a bad commute option for way too long?

The math on this stuff is brutal when you actually track it. Three years of 10 extra minutes a day is like 130 extra hours of sitting in traffic for no reason.

My buddy tracked his commute for a year and found out he was spending like 40 hours just waiting for left turns. Totally changed his route.
