Appreciation post: the CTA Blue Line trick that cut my commute to work by 25 minutes
For two years I rode the Blue Line from Logan Square to the Loop every morning and just accepted that it turned into a can of sardines by the time we hit Western. My old routine was walking to the California stop because it was closest to my place, but after getting passed up by three full trains in one week I tried something different: I started walking the extra 8 minutes to the Logan Square stop instead. It sounds backwards since it's a longer walk, but that stop is the start of the line going downtown, so I always get a seat and never get skipped. My total trip went from about 45 minutes of standing and sweating to 20 minutes of sitting with a coffee. The only catch is you have to be okay leaving a few minutes earlier, and in the winter that extra walk is no joke. Has anyone else switched stops for a better ride, or am I the last person in the neighborhood to figure this out?
