Almost got clipped by a cyclist at the Fullerton stop and now I cross the street totally different
Last Tuesday around 5:30pm I got off the Brown Line at Fullerton and started crossing toward the east side like I always do. A guy on a bike came flying through the crosswalk against the light and missed my shoulder by maybe six inches. He yelled something at me like it was my fault and kept going. There were at least 20 other people crossing with me and nobody even flinched, which tells you how normal this is now. Since then I wait for the walk signal even when the street looks empty, which adds about two minutes to my commute each way. I started looking up the crash numbers on that stretch of Lincoln and it is worse than I expected. Has anyone else changed how they cross after a close call, or am I being too careful?
