Honestly that sounds like a waste of time... just use some good stock and call it a day. No one can tell the difference anyway.

Wait, you really think no one can tell the difference between homemade stock and store-bought? That's wild. Olivia_webb is totally right about the patience thing, but it's also about the flavor. The stuff from a box just tastes flat and salty. A real homemade broth has a whole different depth to it. It's the base of everything, so that difference comes through in the final dish.
