Picked a $30 pan scraper over the $120 one, zero regrets after 6 months
My old sheet pans were getting wrecked from scraping with a metal spatula. Saw two options at a restaurant supply place in Portland: a cheap plastic handled scraper for $30 and a fancy stainless one with a grip for $120. Figured I'd burn through the cheap one in a month. Six months later it's still going strong, no rust, cleans up in seconds, and the handle hasn't cracked. The expensive one probably works fine too, but why pay 4x for basically the same motion? Any other line cooks cheap out on tools that surprisingly hold up better than the premium versions?

My favorite offset spatula cost me 14 bucks at a kitchen outlet in Austin, meanwhile the same brand name one from the fancy catalog goes for 60. Been using mine five days a week for over a year now, the blade still flexes perfectly and the wooden handle just got a nice worn-in grip. I've dropped it in the fryer twice and it didn't warp or melt, which honestly shocked me. The expensive ones probably have a better balance or whatever, but my cheap one does the same job without me babying it. Sometimes you're just paying for the label, you know?
