Found out I was cutting my onions wrong for like 10 years
Saw a video last week of a prep cook at this little bistro in Portland leaving the root intact and slicing from the side instead of pole to pole. It changed everything for me I can't believe I was fighting those layers all that time for no reason. Has anyone else had a basic knife skill revelation that made you feel kind of dumb?

@rileyjones absolutely nailed it. I spent years wedging my chef's knife into bell peppers from the top down, fighting the ribs and seeds, getting juice everywhere. Finally saw a line cook on Instagram just slice the bottom flat, stand it up, and take the four sides off clean in seconds. Felt like a complete idiot but now I go through prep so much faster. That whole 'do it the hard way forever' thing is way too real.

You ever realize you've been making something way harder than it needed to be for years? That's a big pattern I see all the time in everyday life. We learn one way to do something, then just stick with it forever without questioning it. It's like people who tie their shoes wrong or hold a pencil weird - they just never stop to think there might be a faster way. Sometimes all it takes is one random video to flip the whole thing around and make you feel a little dumb but also grateful.

Yeah I read that chefs keep their knife really sharp so they don't have to force things through the produce.
