Used to skip lunch shifts at the hospital, now I pack a $4 meal kit from a taco truck near the bus stop
For two years I'd just grab a sad vending machine sandwich during my break, spending like $8 and still starving an hour later. Then one night a coworker told me about La Chingada's truck parked at 3rd and Main after 11pm, where they do a burrito bowl with rice, beans, and your choice of meat for $4. Now I stop by on my way to the night shift every Friday and it actually keeps me full until 6am. Anyone else found a specific food truck that beats every grocery store deal in their area?

The taco truck thing reminds me of how everyone in my building started buying those $5 rotisserie chickens from the corner market instead of the $12 salads from the chain place. It's like we all just hit this wall where we realized we were paying for the idea of eating healthy but getting nothing out of it. Once you find that one spot that actually feeds you, it changes your whole week. I see the same pattern with people who finally find a barber that doesn't rush them or a gas station that has decent coffee. It's not really about the food, it's about knowing where your time and money actually count. You stop guessing and start planning your day around something that works.

Honestly I think that $5 chicken is gonna taste pretty average by week three, and the novelty wears off fast. I've seen people lock into their "cheaper spot" and then realize they're bored of it but feel guilty switching back. The $12 salad at least gives you variety even if it feels like a rip, sometimes paying extra is just buying the option to not eat the same thing every day.
