Took me 4 months to find a decent lunch under $8 near downtown
Every spot within 6 blocks of my office either runs $12 minimum or serves soggy sandwiches. Finally tried the food truck on 5th and Main, the one with the yellow awning, and their chicken rice bowl is $7.50 and actually filling. I must have walked past it like 30 times before I stopped to check the menu. Anyone else got a hidden cheap spot that took them way too long to discover?
Just move on from the downtown lunch hunt, it's a losing game. The carts know their worth and they'll charge you $11 for a wrap with two sad leaves of lettuce. My rule now is to walk toward the courthouse or the hospital, not the shiny towers, because nurses and clerks won't pay tourist prices. There's a taco window behind the parking garage that does three for six bucks and the line is all hospital badges. The suits never find it because they never walk past their own lobby.
