Gas station taqueria near my place beats every taco spot on the trendy strip
Everyone in my neighborhood keeps raving about the new $14 taco place with the neon sign, but I've been eating at the taqueria inside the Shell station on Cesar Chavez for 2 years and it's still $2.50 a taco. Last Friday I grabbed 4 al pastor tacos and a horchata for $12 even, and the meat was way juicier than the fancy spot down the block. People assume gas station food means roller hot dogs, but this place has a real trompo spinning in the corner and a line of guys in work boots at 6am. The fancy place uses tiny tortillas and charges extra for chips, which tells you everything. Has anyone else found a gas station or laundromat kitchen that beats the hyped spots in their area?
