Found a 4 dollar lunch trick at a Chinese buffet in Toledo

I was broke last Tuesday and the all-you-can-eat place near the interstate charged 11 bucks, so I asked if they had a soup-only option and they said 4 dollars for a bowl with free rice. I loaded up on hot and sour soup plus three scoops of fried rice, and honestly ate like a king for less than half the normal price. Does anyone else try the weird off-menu asks at buffets, or am I just that guy now?

Noticed the same thing at gas stations and coffee shops lately. Asking for the small or off-menu option saves me like 3 bucks a week and I don't even miss the extra food. It's wild how places just have hidden prices they never tell you about until you ask. Feels like everyone's so used to paying full price that we forget the menu isn't the only rulebook.
