Plugged into a 120V outlet at my brother's place in Sacramento and finally checked the amps, turns out I was tripping his breaker all weekend
So here's the deal. I drove up to my brother's place in Sacramento for a long weekend and just plugged my car into the regular wall outlet in his garage like I always do at home. Every night around 2am his garage breaker would trip and I kept blaming his old wiring. Third night in a row it popped, he came out with a flashlight and asked what amps I had the car set to. I said I never touched it, just plugged in. He pulled up the app on my phone and showed me the car was pulling the full 12 amps, but his circuit was shared with a garage fridge and some lights, so it was too much. I dropped it to 8 amps and never tripped again the rest of the trip. I had no idea that setting even existed for level 1 charging, and I'd been rolling the dice at home on a 15 amp circuit for almost a year. If you're charging on a normal outlet, check what your car is pulling, it might be more than the circuit wants. Anyone else find out the hard way that your car has an amp setting buried in a menu somewhere?
