Hit 50,000 miles in my Leaf, still on the original battery
Passed 50k on the way to work this week. The range has dropped maybe 8 percent since new, but I used to panic about battery wear and now I just plug in at the cheap lot downtown. Anyone else surprised their pack held up longer than they expected?

...and the thing nobody really talks about is how the battery chemistry in the Leaf actually gets better at holding a steady charge once it hits that 40-50k mark. My buddy's got one with 80k on the clock and his range loss has been flat for like three years now. It's like the cells sort of settle into a rhythm. The real killer is the summer heat if you live in Arizona or Texas, not the miles. That's why I always park in the shade or use a sunshade on the windshield, even when I'm only stopping for ten minutes. You're doing it right by plugging in at the cheap lot, keeps the pack from sitting at 100% in the sun all day.
