Tried to make a crying cat meme at 11pm and my whole template fell apart
Honestly last Tuesday around 11pm I sat down to make this crying cat meme for my sister's birthday group chat, you know the one with the blurry cat and the little tears. I grabbed a free template off some site, dropped the cat into my editor, and the second I tried to slap the text on top, the whole background went clear. Turns out the template was one of those fake PNG files that just looks solid until you move it. I spent about 40 minutes fighting it, re-downloading three times, even tried a different browser before I figured out the file was the problem. What finally worked was taking a screenshot of the cat and cutting it out myself in the free tool, took 5 more minutes and looked way better. Now I want to know, does anyone have a decent cat cutout template that is not a scam file? Or am I stuck making every meme the hard way forever?
Oh man, the fake PNG thing has burned me too, but here's the part nobody talks about: half those "free template" sites are just farming your clicks through three redirect pages before you even get the file. What I started doing is grabbing the cat screenshot from the original meme itself instead of hunting for a cutout, since the meme has been reposted so many times the compression actually adds to the ugly crying vibe. Screenshot, crop tight, done in two minutes, and it never comes out with a clear background. The one time I did find a real transparent PNG, it had a watermark hidden in the alpha channel that only showed up after I posted it.
