Tried that 'text on a curved path' trick for cat memes and it flopped

My buddy who runs a meme page told me last Tuesday that curved text would make my cat pics look way more professional, so I redid my top 3 templates with it. The result looked like the words were melting off the cat's face, and my group chat rated them 2 out of 10. Anyone else get burned by a trend that some random online said was the secret sauce?
