Took me way too long to realize cat memes work best with short text overlays
I spent like 4 hours last week making this perfect cat meme with a long, detailed caption about how my cat knocks stuff off shelves. I was so proud of it. Posted it in a cat group and it got like 3 likes. Meanwhile my friend threw together a 3 word caption on a blurry photo of her cat yawning and it got 200 likes in an hour. I was so confused. Then I realized nobody reads long text on memes. They just glance at the cat and the first couple words. Now I keep my meme text to 5 words max and my engagement went way up. Has anyone else had to relearn how to make cat memes after thinking you had it figured out?

My cat once sat on my keyboard while I was typing out a whole story about his bath time adventures for a meme. I was trying to be clever and explain each panel. After I posted it, nobody even clicked to see the full text. My sister just put "when the bath water hits different" on a picture of her cat looking traumatized and it went viral in our family group chat. Now I just stick to one punchy line and let the cat face do the work.
