The meme generator site I swore by for 2 years was stealing from smaller creators
I used to defend this one popular cat meme builder because it had all the templates and easy text boxes. Then last month I found out via a Reddit thread that a bunch of the base images were ripped from indie artists without credit. I checked three of my old uploads and sure enough, two had watermarks cropped out. That felt gross since I'd been recommending it to everyone in this group. I switched to a simple free editor and now I make captions over my own cat photos, takes maybe 10 extra minutes. Has anyone else ditched a tool after finding out something sketchy about it, or am I overthinking this?
