Finally figured out why my cat memes got no engagement after 3 months of trying

I was spending all this time making fancy layered memes with multiple panels and text effects and getting like 2 likes. Then I noticed one day that a blurry cell phone pic of my cat sitting in a cardboard box got 200 upvotes. Turns out the best meme format is just a single clear photo with one line of text on it. All those edits were actually making the jokes harder to read. Has anyone else found that simpler is better for cat memes or am I just bad at text effects?

Man it's wild how this translates to everything. I've noticed the same thing with cooking videos on social media where the simplest ones get way more traction than the complicated recipes. Keep it simple and let the content speak for itself I guess.

My cat once knocked my phone out of my hand taking a selfie and that accidental shot got more likes than anything I'd planned for weeks. Now I just snap whatever she's doing and throw a caption on it.
