Stuck in a tight spot with talkative neighbors during outdoor carpet runs
Just finished a patio carpet job where the next door folks wouldn't stop chatting and asking questions the whole time. On one side, being open and friendly can make the work day nicer and keep peace in the neighborhood. On the other side, all that talking really slowed me down and I almost made a cut wrong because I lost focus. I've had jobs where a good chat led to more work from their friends, but also times where it messed up my timing and flow. It's hard to know when to smile and talk or just put my head down and work. What do you think? Do you engage with curious neighbors or find a polite way to keep to the task? I could use some tips on finding that balance.

Set up a visible do not disturb zone with your tools.

That sign only works if people actually read it, which in my experience they don't. I tried the whole "tools down" zone thing last year and my roommate would still walk right in to ask what was for dinner. Maybe the real tool is the person ignoring the boundary.

My last roommate would barge in even with a bright red sign and my toolbox blocking the door. Some people just refuse to see a boundary.
