Stayed at a hotel in Boise and the carpet seams were a masterclass
I was there for a family thing last month, and the room had this big patterned carpet. Normally, you can spot a seam a mile away, right? But I literally got on my hands and knees trying to find where they joined it. The pattern match was so perfect, and the nap direction was spot on. It made me realize I've been rushing my own seam work when I'm tired at the end of a job. Has anyone else seen an install that made you stop and really look at your own methods? I'm curious about the tools or tricks for getting that kind of invisible join on a busy pattern.

Get on your hands and knees? Yeah that's actually how you're supposed to check a seam properly, not just run a roller over it and hope. A good installer will do a hand seam first, then a power stretcher, then a knee kicker, and finish with a careful tucking. The real trick for invisible seams on patterned carpet is planning the cut so the repeat lines up before you even glue the tape down.

On your hands and knees" for a carpet seam? Really?

My uncle did flooring for thirty years and swore by the knee pads. Said you can't feel a seam through a roller, you have to get down there. That's a whole job on the floor, not just a quick pass with a tool. Seems like a great way to wreck your back by fifty.
